Panasonic PT-D5700E Panasonic projector review

We have a few Panasonic projectors in stock, I now have the latest in the 5000 range the PT-D5700E, 6000anli and more control/menu tweaks than I care to list, once again I am very happy with both the picture/colour and usability, despite being a tad on the large side its not that heavy, and the twin lamp system gives you the confidence that should one lamp go you still have a picture without swapping the machine out. I also acquired a fixed0.8 lens which means you can get a massive 4 meter picture from only 3 and a half meters back, ideal for working on shallow stages, there are lenses available up to 4.8, so you can fly from the back of the room. All the usual inputs and its got memory for a couple of stills, plus wifi, I cant think of anything else I would want from a projector, tea maker/microwave perhaps? We can get these at a great price so if you want a medium to large venue projector give us a call!

IBM Lenovo N500 4233 2BG laptop review.

Got 4 of these Notebooks to use as exibition website viewers, they come in around the £420.00 mark with Bag, Vat, mouse, mouse pad, postage and a lock, so they are near the budget end of things, but not in any way other than the price, 15.4" screen-crisp and bright, fastish with a Pentium dual-core 2000+a bit, 2 GB of ram, 4 USB's, I could go on but check the spec-
What it cant tell you is whats it like build quality wise, well time will tell but its very solid, if a little heavy, but feels nice and chunky. when it came it was loaded with Vista, so that had to go, and used the discs to downgrade to XP, I dont see it as a downgrade, more of a side step, this took ages, well 2 hours, and beware, it doesent promp for the second disc, so if you think its hung, shut down, (probably have to hold the on/off button down) reboot with the other disc in, the second one has no reference to XP on it, anyway its all a bit confusing, and frustrating, but several automatic reboots later and the usual install of SP3 but not too much Lenovo stuff to deal with, and we are ready to roll, oh the Norton 90 day trial came off in favour of AVAST.
As I look at the screen now, not glass but hard plastic, I think this is one of the best screens I have seen, the graphics are on board and the spec isn't that amazing, I will have to test later, but as general word processor business machine, I give it 8.9 out of ten. I found it had a good balance of features when comparing to other machines in the price range, it doesn't look flash on the outside, but there are enough lights and switches to make most things like sound up/down/off a mouse free action, I like the blue/violet led's, and its also fairly quiet! Thanks IBM!

New year-some new kit

So, well into the New Year and all is well... er......crunchy! Decided to do a load of shopping for kit that we will need this year, before the latest raft of price increases hits at the end of January courtesy of the rising basket case of foreign currencies!
Big projection from Panasonic in the shape of a PT-D5700e complete with 0.8 short throw lens, all wrapped up in a flight case sourced from the wonderful Jetlife flight cases www.jetlifecases.com which has been designed for outdoor use with a window, vents and cable duct.... let it rain!!! a bunch of medium spec fujitsu semen’s laptops which are destined for online exhibition use, some more Sennheiser lavaliere mics and headsets, for those who wish to be heard/look Madonnaesk whilst jigging about a lot, and sundry other bits and pieces I will be reviewing in the not too distant.
Recently I purchased a TV-one 1T-C2-200 switcher, it has two video composite/SVHS and one VGA input, it scales up and down, and fades to black any of the above signals, but most impressively for a sub £600 device allows the user to seamlessly mix from one source to another, although a little complicated to set up as the menu is huge, once done and saved is a very useful gadget for dry hires where say a camera and PC/laptop are to be used, and all you have to do is press the fade button....hey presto! the tech support team at TV-One are great, if you obtain one of their devices there is a standard rate phone number and they really are friendly and helpful, it is also nice to know a British company is manufacturing quality devices which are heavily exported! and what a variety, if you are looking for a switching, scaling machine take a peak-www.tvone.co.uk or give us a call, so till next time keep on clicking!

First post

So, my first blog, the purpose of which is to bring you the latest news from Smyth Towers!
I will be reviewing equipment, commenting on sound and AV issues, discussing methods and generally being a know-all.
There may be the odd random tale/joke/moan, and I will be expecting comments/reply’s and derision where necessary!
If you have any issues or comments, or even reviews you want to post, i.e. this cost loads and its bobbins (not good) please feel free to email so we can warn the industry at large.
Above all I want my blogs to be informative and generally make the AV world a better place to live/work in, and to give our customers a bit of the flavour of what Allan Smyth Audio Visual is about.
Please enjoy, and don’t be afraid to post comments, names are good but not essential, and lastly I would like to thank Mr Matt Watson of
Jaylix Productions for building this lovely new 3rd generation site!
May the force be with you!
